Good nutrition is really important for our health. Our diet consists of the food we eat and nutrition refers to the appropriate nourishment of our body. Our body must get all the required vitamins, nutrients and minerals for it to function at its best level. So, we cannot hope to achieve good health without proper diet and nutrition.

Physical activity combined with proper diet and nutrition can not only help us maintain an ideal weight but it can also improve our heart and other body functions. It can help us perform better in our lives and can also improve our mental health. A well balanced diet and nutrition can also boost our immune system and increase the ability of our body to fight various diseases and infections. It can also ensure better wound healing along with faster recovery from injuries and diseases. What we need to be aware of is the fact that the nutritional needs of every individual are unique and he must be able to meet those specific needs. The nutrition needs of an infant are different from those of an adolescent whereas a pregnant woman requires much different nutrition as compared to that of a toddler. In addition to this the weight and activity level of a person can also influence the amount of nutrients required by his body.

A diet is considered healthy if it can provide our body with a balanced nutrition. We must be able to make smart selection from every group of foods and limit the amount of salt, sugar and fat. Food items that are rich in saturated and trans fat can raise the our cholesterol level and as a result expose us to the risk of various heart diseases.
